The usage of gadgets is increasing day by day in order to connect to the whole world. Today, you will find gadgets everywhere: Music players, tablets, Laptops, Smartphones, net books etc are being used extensively all over the world. If any of these gadgets is used as an educational tool and learning, then it is mobile learning.

For video based assignment, students can make films through their smartphone’s Movie feature and connect the smartphone to the computer or a laptop via USB port in order to transfer files for editing.

These are just few of the hundreds of example of how smartphone is used for education purpose. Mobile learning makes learning customized and reduces the gaps between a teacher and a student. The most amazing thing is that it gives students tons of information and content, anywhere, anytime. This greatly enhances students’ motivation and interest in learning.

Smartphones are smaller in size and portable enough to be taken to anywhere as compared to laptops and computers.

  • Low Cost:

Since less material is required for making smartphones and big companies like Samsung, Apple are focusing on producing low price models, they are more economical for students than desktop system.

  •  Energy-Saver:

 Smartphones are energy efficient as they consume less power than laptop and desktop computers.

  • Connection:

smartphones have enhanced connectivity features like Bluetooth, Wifi and Internet connectivity. Internet connectivity raises the student performance since students are able to have faster and easy access to required content.

The Cons of Mobile learning:

Now let’s discover some of the disadvantages.

  • Cost:

Though smartphones are more economical than laptop, desktop and tablet computers, they are still costly for majority of students. The price ranges from $100 to $500. Also, since technology also changes on a faster pace, Smartphone up gradation is also necessary. Internet connectivity also bears some cost.

  • Size of Device:

Because of smaller size, smartphones are easy to steal and be lost.  Since the screen size is also small, students having sight issues might have difficulty in reading the minute text. However, now most of the smartphones are embedded with feature that can customize font size and type.
